Im am honoured and grateful to have been invited into the Invermere Yoga community.
My journey in yoga began almost twenty years ago in meditation. A teacher of mine saw I was struggling and invited me to a meditation group. He knew the benefits of becoming still and turning inward and wanted to help me. Soon after I stumbled upon my first yoga class, and like most practitioners of yoga, I was overcome by the feeling of connection, peace, grounding, and love.
Through life’s ups and downs Yoga has been my one constant, and at times my lifeline. I started taking workshops and short trainings to further my study. I didn’t feel ready to step into the seat of a teacher until 2016.
I completed my first 200hr training in Goa, India. The training was in Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow. My time in India was an experience I have never known. I learned a great deal there and made connections with people from all over the world seeking similar life goals. It was a time in my life I will always cherish.
In 2018, I attended my second 200hr training in Calgary with Yoga Santosha, where I met our beloved Stevo. It is at Santosha where I continue to cultivate close relationships with my mentors.
Today I find myself teaching on many different platforms. I am learning so much everyday. Currently, I teach classes in studio and online, sometimes simultaneously! I am also a volunteer teacher with the Calgary Public Library. I am mainly teaching classes in vinyasa flow, hatha, beginners, functional flow, and yin.
Yoga means more to me than words can convey. Most importantly, yoga fosters connection and service in my life. Every time we step on our mat we are given the opportunity to cultivate a kinder more compassionate way of moving through the world. I also value the physicality of the asana practice. I believe in order to maintain a lifelong yoga practice we must build strength and flexibility. Balance is key; Yin and Yang, Sun and Moon, Steadiness and Ease.
I hope to be guiding and practicing with all of you very soon! When we show up for ourselves we are showing up for others and that my friends is a beautiful thing.
Much Love, Suzanne.
